Summary

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life。

When she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself。 Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world。 Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated。 Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career。

Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way。 As Evelyn’s life unfolds—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress。 But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways。

I loved this story。 Also, I’m obsessed with Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing and the way that she tells stories through context and not just facts— the newspaper clippings in this, the interview style in Daisy Jones。

LO TIENEN QUE LEER。 。。。more

After years of pushing it off, I can finally say I have read this! I went into the book knowing a decent amount about the story based on countless reviews I have seen over the years but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I did not know。 It took me a lot longer to read than I planned because I had to stop every twenty pages to let everything sink in but wow what a read!Evelyn Hugo is a fantastically well written character。 Despite being obviously flawed at times, Evelyn’s sureness in herself After years of pushing it off, I can finally say I have read this! 3。5!! This book was like no book I have ever read before。 It was interesting, but it took me forever to finish。 I started in 2020, but I didn't seriously pick this book back up until 2021。 I probably read 15+ books in between。 I started reading this book, and I finished it by listening to the audiobook。 The concept of seven husbands always made me giggle。 I didn't know how this book would go, but it was pretty good。 Not my favorite book of all time, but the writing was enthralling and captivatin 3。5!! I really loved this book! A beautiful story & one I not quite thought would be a Hollywood secret。 Hmmm。 Loved the way it was written with the “newspaper” updates。

I was hooked on this story from the very beginning, Evelyn Hugo is such an amazing, complex and interesting character you just want to know everything about her and more。

If I'm being completely frank, I thought this book was going to end up in my DNF (Did Not Finish) pile until about half way through。 The pace seemed a bit slow to me at first and I did not find myself particularly invested in any of the characters。 My cousins, with whom I read this book, encouraged me to keep going as it would pick up towards the end, and I am so glad I listened。Evelyn Hugo's character is absolutely stunning。 I cannot for the life of me picture her as she is described in the boo If I'm being completely frank, I thought this book was going to end up in my DNF (Did Not Finish) pile until about half way through。 The pace seemed a bit slow to me at first and I did not find myself particularly invested in any of the characters。 My cousins, with whom I read this book, encouraged me to keep going as it would pick up towards the end, and I am so glad I listened。Evelyn Hugo's character is absolutely stunning。 I cannot for the life of me picture her as she is described in the book, however, her character (in the non literary sense) and its impact will stay with me。 She was somehow simultaneously unapologetically herself and completely fooling everyone around her about who she was。 She did both elegantly, with poise, with charm, with humor。 I found myself highlighting so many of her words。Her friendship with Harry Cameron was probably my favorite relationship to follow throughout。 This book is about many things but love reigns supreme。 Platonic love, romantic love, familial love, but most importantly self-love。 Romantic love between women, romantic love between men, romantic love (and lust) between members of the different sexes。。。it was all represented in this novel in a way that brought attention to how multiple things can be true at the same time。 And I loved that。 。。。more

I never cry because of books。 This made me cry 3 times。 This is just such an amazing story I unterstand why everyone loves it。 The writing is chefs kiss and the characters are so flawed and i still loved them。 They were real people which is probably why this story made me so emotional。 An absolute 5 star read!

I absolutely loved this!! I loved going through Evelyn’s entire life story。 Loved the news articles updating us as if we were reading a magazine from that time period。 The narration was great too! Can’t wait to read more from this author。 🎧

I had a lot of expectations about this book and they were met and even exceeded。 I loved reading about Evelyn's life as told through her 7 marriages。 Her story is so raw and the ending had me bawling。 The time line of this story is especially unique as it describes Hollywood from the 1950s-80s。 Great read! This is my second TJR book and my favorite so far。 I read Daisy Jones and The Six and it was just alright for me but this book was out of this world。 Definitely my favorite of the month and my favorite so far this year。 I loved how the story was told between Evelyn and Monique。 I had so many guesses to why Evelyn picked Monique and I wasn’t even close to the reason。 There were a number of events that I didn’t see coming and that made this book so much better。 Evelyn was a force to be reckoned wi This is my second TJR book and my favorite so far。 I read Daisy Jones and The Six and it was just alright for me but this book was out of this world。 Definitely my favorite of the month and my favorite so far this year。 I loved how the story was told between Evelyn and Monique。 I had so many guesses to why Evelyn picked Monique and I wasn’t even close to the reason。 There were a number of events that I didn’t see coming and that made this book so much better。 Evelyn was a force to be reckoned with。 I loved that she went after what she wanted and would do anything to get it。 She tried to do her best to the people she loved。 Her story was so emotional (many many tears were shed) and inspiring。 I loved that the book was sectioned by husband but flowed so well。 This was my IRL book club book for March and my favorite book club book so far。 If you haven’t read it, go out it on your wishlist or buy it now! I recommend this book to everyone。 。。。more

I just finished reading this book and after I did I could not let this book go - emotionally and physically。 It might be the best book I have ever read (these are loud words)。 The narration was easy to read and folove。 Not once I got lost or I did not understood the meanings (and english is not my native language)。 The characters of book are so well written, the personalities are so complexe, yet so reliable。 Emotions so raw, yet not painful to the reader。 You read about them, you struggle with I just finished reading this book and after I did I could not let this book go - emotionally and physically。 It might be the best book I have ever read (these are loud words)。 The narration was easy to read and folove。 Not once I got lost or I did not understood the meanings (and english is not my native language)。 The characters of book are so well written, the personalities are so complexe, yet so reliable。 Emotions so raw, yet not painful to the reader。 You read about them, you struggle with them, you love them。 You wish you there there。 The background, scene of novel is set to make feel, like you have peaked in behind the curtains, at least a little bit。The book is must to read, but its better to read it without full knowledge of its content beforehand。 So no spoilers in this review。 Except this book is exceptional! 。。。more

The pure drama that this main character presents is both breath taking and entertaining。 There is never a dry moment throughout this book, you'll either want to laugh, cry or cheer as the pages continue to turn。 The pure drama that this main character presents is both breath taking and entertaining。 There is never a dry moment throughout this book, you'll either want to laugh, cry or cheer as the pages continue to turn。 。。。more
